Dental Cleanings and Exams
Keeping up with regular cleanings and exams is one of the best ways to prevent dental issues before they start. At Frankenmuth Smiles, we take a gentle, thorough approach to every visit – making sure your teeth and overall oral health remain in great shape. Whether it’s your first visit or your first in a while, we’re here to help. Read more below about what a typical visit looks like and why cleanings are important!
What Happens During a Routine Dental Visit
When you come in for a cleaning and exam, we focus on both comfort and prevention. Your visit usually starts with a few questions about your medical history, any changes you’ve noticed, and your personal goals for your oral health.
Depending on how long it’s been since your last visit, we may take digital X-rays to check below the surface. These help us spot cavities, infections, bone loss, or other issues that aren’t visible during a visual exam.
Our hygienist will then gently clean your teeth, removing plaque and tartar buildup, especially in areas that are hard to reach with brushing and flossing alone. After that, your teeth will be polished to help reduce surface stains and leave you with a smooth, refreshed smile.
The Exam with Dr. Brown
Once your cleaning is complete, Dr. Kathryn Brown will perform a detailed exam. She’ll check your teeth, gums, bite, and jaw alignment – looking for any signs of tooth decay, gum disease, cracked fillings, or other concerns. If anything needs attention, she’ll explain your options in plain language and answer any questions you have.
We also screen for oral cancer as part of every routine exam, because early detection can be life-saving.
How Often Should I Get a Cleaning?
For most patients, we recommend cleanings and exams every six months. If you’re more prone to gum disease, have a history of dental work, or build up tartar quickly, we may suggest visits every 3–4 months. We’ll let you know what’s best for your smile based on what we see.
Preventive Dentistry That Fits Your Life
Dental cleanings do more than just brighten your teeth – they help prevent future problems, reduce long-term costs, and keep your mouth and body healthier overall.
Whether you’re coming in as part of your routine, or picking things back up after time away, you’ll be welcomed without judgment.
